On the outskirts of central Sapporo, the Nopporo Forest Park is unusual as there are very few large flatland forests anywhere major cities in Japan. At 2050 hectares, it is more than 6 times the area of New York’s central park. About 80% of the park is covered by forest. It is usually possible to spot Hokkaido squirrels and snow rabbits if you are keen eyed.
The park also includes open air museums such as Sapporo Historical Village and extensive gardens.
